You do not need to have every box sorted before you begin planning. Start by deciding what the garage needs to do for you next.
Maybe you want room to park again. Maybe a move is coming up, or an old appliance and a few pieces of furniture have turned into a bigger pile. A clear goal helps you decide what stays and gives the removal crew a useful picture of the job.
Set aside the things you know you want to keep: tools you use, seasonal equipment, family keepsakes, and anything belonging to someone else. Label those items clearly. If several people use the garage, agree on the keep pile before removal day.
You can also make a separate “decide later” area. The goal is to keep uncertain items out of the removal pile, especially when the space holds paperwork or sentimental belongings.
Take one wide photo from the garage entrance and a few closer photos of the items you want removed. If a large object sits behind other items, include a second angle so its size and position are easier to understand.
Include the route from the items to the driveway. A narrow opening, stairs, a steep driveway, or a long carrying distance is useful information before the crew arrives. You do not need to move a heavy item just to photograph it.
Tell the company about paint, chemicals, fuel, batteries, or unidentified containers before including them in the job. Do not assume that every item is accepted. Leave uncertain items in place and ask how they should be handled.
Make the “keep” and “remove” areas visibly different. A simple label or a designated corner can prevent confusion. Keep children and pets away from the work area, and plan where you would like the truck or trailer to park.
If an item is too heavy or awkward to move comfortably, leave it where it is and explain the situation when arranging the job.
Walk through what is being removed and what stays. Point out any items added since the photos were taken, and confirm the price and scope before the work starts. A quick final look at the cleared area lets you check that the agreed items are gone.
